The Mystery of the Shibuya River Sewers (渋谷川暗渠の怪, Shibuya-gawa Ankyo no Kai?) is the 6th chapter of the Kemono Jihen manga series.
Summary[]
Kabane gets rid of the bug for Akira.
Akira screams suddenly saying that there is a roach in the bathroom. Kabane gets rid of it and tells Akira that if he is ever scared again, he can tell him. Before going to bed, Akira tells Shiki that it's nice to have Kabane since he's reliable. Shiki responds that doesn't it mean that Akira is useless even thoug he is older than him. Hearing this, Akira puts on a serious face and suddenly suggests to be Kabane's apprentice.
Inugami then hears about this and gives Kabane and Akira a job about the deaths of workers in an underground river in Shibuya. Inugami further tells them the job will be scary and dirty and asks Akira if he really can do the job. Kabane appears saying he doesn't have problem with that. On the other hand, Akira says he doesn't have a problem with that and proceeds to go to the bathroom.
A frog kemono attacks Akira.
Kabane arrives at the underground river and recalls what Inugami said about the true cluprits who are the original inhabitants of Shibuya River. Suddenly, Akira arrives on a full medical suit with a mask on. Due to Akira's being scared, Kabane leads him towards the river. Kabane then tells Akira that wild animals are docile if you leave them alone and it is best not to scream since it might provoke them. Akira then asks why Kabane let bugs and stuff go without killing them. Kabane replies that if they have the intent to kill him, he will kill them then. Akira tells Kabane that he reminds him of his older brother and tells Kabane aout his background.
Learning that Akira is a snow kemono, Kabane asks him if he can control snow and ice to which Akira says that he can but it requires a lot of concentration and can only freeze the surface of water. Suddenly, a frog kemono grabs Akira from above. Kabane manages to free Akira. Just as the frog-like species tries to attack again, a tanuki appears out of nowhere and bites the frog kemono.

The tanuki then tells them using writings that the frog kemono who attack them is a frog kemono who became an abnormal after eating humans. The tanuki then tells them ot get ready and orders to exterminate them. Hearing that they're gonna fight those things, Akira panics and sweats. Kabane then tells him that if he doesn't feel to do it, he can walk him to the exit. Akira then recalls that he wants to get stronger while he looks for his older brother and tells Kabane that he will do it.
The tanuki then lures the frog kemonos using blood. Kabane manages to attack some of them. Just as Akira was about to be attacked, the tanuki saves him. Kabane also saves Akira when another tries to attack him. Due to the events, Akira feels that he needs to do something and wants to be useful. Suddenly, the place turns frozen. An old frog kemono appears and thanks the tanuki detective for laying their souls on rest. The tanuki replies that they will be back and will be making graves.
Kabane and Akira then goes back to the office. Inugami arrives and tells them that the client thanked them and even gave them a present,a toad oil.
