Introduction |
Gramps Tasaburo (太三郎のじいさん Tasaburō no Jīsan?), also known as Tasaburo the Third, was the chief of the Tanukis of Shikoku and and a former wielder of the Phantasm Calculus.[1]
Appearance[]
Gramps Tasaburo is an old tanuki, has a long beard that almost touches the ground, wears a hat attached on his neck and is often seen holding a wooden cane.
Personality[]
Gramps Tasaburo was the chief of the Tanuki clan, remembered as a figure of wisdom, and authority. Recognized for demonstrating deep knowledge and analytical skills, always approaching situations in a strategic and considered manner.
While often stern and strict with others, Tasaburo revealed a softer, deeply affectionate side when with his granddaughter. Exceptionally protective and caring, he went out of his way to avoid upsetting her, even refraining from transforming into his human form because she preferred his Tanuki appearance. This contrast in behavior highlighted the depth of his love for her.
Tasaburo was a steadfast guardian of his clan's traditions and hierarchy, embodying a deep sense of duty to his community. His dedication was absolute, culminating in his willingness to sacrifice his own life to protect not only the inhabitants of Invisible Yashima but all life within its reach. His legacy endures as a testament to his unparalleled strength, wisdom, and devotion to his people.
Background[]
Little information has been revealed about Gramps Tasaburo's past, but it is known that he was the bearer of the Phantasm Calculus and the creator of the Unseen Yashima. He had a son who was destined to succeed him as fourth leader, but withdrew due to difficulties with the transformations. As a result, Tasaburo had to continue as head of Yashima for longer, while his granddaughter prepared to take on the role of future leader and become the fourth head of the Tanukis of Shikoku.
Powers & Abilities[]
In addition to the common Tanuki abilities, he had:

Tasaburo attacks Kabane
- Superhuman Strength: Tasaburo possesses overwhelming strength. In his first fight against Kabane, he managed to defeat him with a single blow, causing multiple fractures. This attack was so powerful that it would have been fatal if Kabane did not possess immortality.[1]
- Speed & Agility: Despite his age, he proved to be extremely fast, impossible to be accompanied by less skilled opponents. Kabane, after being defeated in his first confrontation with him, mentioned that he didn't even see the attack.[3] He also demonstrated good agility, allowing him to execute complex movements fluidly. He can dodge and counterattack with precision, making him a formidable opponent.
- Unseen Yashima (裏屋島 Ura Yashima?): Is a place created by Tasaburo, hidden from human view through illusions, where the Tanukis of Shikoku live. Tasaburo has the ability to discover everything that is happening inside Yashima, in addition to being able to remove and add objects or beings at will. However, its existence depends on Tasaburo's presence; If he leaves, Unseen Yashima will cease to exist.[4]
- Thirty-Six Views of Yashima: White-Crested Waves of Setouchi (屋島三十六景 瀬戸内之白浪 Yashima Sanjūroku Kei: Setouchi no Shiranami?): In this technique, Tasaburo summons a series of aggressive waves from the Seto Sea. The user has full control over the waves and can dictate their direction. When Akagi and Kaede attacked Unseen Yashima, Tasaburo used this technique to surround their fusion in an attempt to restrict their movements.[4]
- The Thirty-Six Views of Yashima: Pelting Rain Dragons (屋島三十六景 篠突雨龍 Yashima Sanjūroku Kei: Shinotsuku Ryū?): This technique summons dragons formed by intense currents of water. These dragons are released with overwhelming force, rushing at high speed toward the opponent to strike with devastating impact.[5] He can also use this technique to trap his opponents by wrapping himself around their bodies and squeezing them tightly.[6]
Relationships[]
Iyo Hime[]
She is Tasaburo's granddaughter. Tassaburo is extremely protective and affectionate towards his granddaughter, even avoiding his human form because she prefers to see him in his Tanuki form. He tends to spoil her, and does everything he can to avoid exposing her to violent situations.
